Since living in NOVA, my hubby and I have been talking about taking more road trips to all the great places on this side of the country. ROAD TRIP! This is like a forbidden word to us because we are people who like to FLY. I think our oldest child had flown to five states by the time he was 3 months old; for our family that’s just the way we like to travel. It wasn’t always that way for us, we both grew up taking family trips by car. Yet, as the number of heads in our family has gone from two to five, flying isn’t that cheap anymore. I don’t have a bucket list, at least not one in writing, but if I did, Hilton Head (HH) in South Carolina would have been added to it long ago.
Playing on the beach and biking around the Island were definitely two of the highlights from the trip. HH offers so much more, especially if you like to golf. There are 30 beautiful courses on the island and several miniature golf courses for families with kids. We played putt-putt at a course that had posted Bible verses at the beginning of every hole, which was a nice touch if I do say so myself. Only in the South.
Some other highlights on the trip included touring the Harbour Town Lighthouse and enjoying the spectacular views it has to offer of the island shores below. This lighthouse was privately built in 1969 as part of Harbour Town Marina and Sea Pines Plantation, which it sits on.
We also enjoyed many scoops of ice cream, comfy rocking chairs, leisurely shopping at local boutiques and outlets, live entertainment at HarbourFest, lovely sunsets on the harbour, and eating local cuisine. Speaking of, if you happen to travel to HH, I certainly recommend Hudson’s on the docks, which has the most delicious hush puppies, ever, just ask my 7-year-old who inconspicuously ate about 20 of them during the course of dinner.
Did I mention HarbourFests fabulous firework show?
Hilton Head is all-around lovely. A great spot for a low-key family vacation, a romantic couples get-a-way, or even just daily life – wouldn’t that be nice? Now I understand exactly why our family friends frequented HH year, after year, maybe our family will make a similar tradition.
I’ve never heard of Hilton Head before but it sounds dreamy. Hush Puppies are yummmm, I understand E’s obsession 🙂 xx
