Hip hip hooray for my two older kiddos and a job well done this year in school. Now that school is FINALLY, and I mean FINALLY, out for summer we can relax a little, put our feet up, and eat lots of ICE CREAM! In celebration of the last day of school, we made a visit to the quaint little historic town of Clifton, where we had the most delicious homemade ice cream at Peterson’s Ice Cream Depot.
Peterson’s has a wide variety of homemade hard ice creams, soft serve, shakes, malts, sorbets, gelatos, and just about anything else you might be craving on a hot summer day. Today, we were determined to go BIG on this ice cream outing, so, two scoops of their flavor of choice, in a waffle cone, and let’s just throw on a topping! (Another spoiling moment courtesy of grandma).
There are SO many flavors at Peterson’s it is hard to decide on one. As I stand in front of their menu options I try to hide the drool escaping the corner of my mouth, I figure, it is best to go with the flavor that made you salivate in the first place. Or, in the case of my oldest, you may just become overwhelmed by the amount of choices and stare.
Sometimes, one may need a little help trying to decide. I encouraged my oldest toward the “Happy Ending” hard ice cream topped with Cookie Dough. How could you go wrong with chocolate chip cookie dough batter ice cream in a waffle cone!?
It was a hit! He said it is now his favorite ice cream … well, it’s not like any of Peterson’s homemade ice creams would actually disappoint him.
Now, my daughter is a vanilla kind-of-girl and “Vanilla Bliss” is not your typical vanilla, made from bourbon vanilla. YUM! She chose to have bright, colorful sprinkles topping her ice cream, which matches her fun, outgoing personality.
My youngest prefers chocolate, with more chocolate on top, so the clear choice for him was “Chocolate Drama”, topped with crushed oreo’s – he was pretty excited about it.
After enjoying Peterson’s delicious ice cream, we went to the local park to let the kids run out their sugar high. The last day of school ended on with lots of sugar, lots of smiles, and lots of fun memories made together.
If you live in NOVA or you plan to visit, make sure you head down the road and visit Clifton were you can choose from Peterson’s wide variety of enticing homemade treats! Clifton offers even more than this, with it’s rich Virginia history, boutiques, cupcake bakery, trendy restaurants, and Cafe and Creperie; your sure to love it. (If you don’t already!)
Looks delicious especially since it’s 110 outside in Phoenix right now! You know I love ice cream!! 🙂
Yum those ice cream cones look delicious! There’s something about pregnancy that makes me crave ice creams all the time. I try to limit myself to one a day. 😉 Love the photos of your kiddos. Glad you guys are having a relaxing summer with plenty of sun and smiles.
